Gravel Calculator

Enter the area and depth you want to cover and get the amount of crushed stone in tons and cubic yards. It is built for driveways, walkways, drainage areas and paver bases, so you can order the right load from a supplier.

Common questions

Why does it show tons and cubic yards?

Suppliers sell by one or the other. The tons figure uses about 1.4 tons per cubic yard for crushed stone. Use whichever unit your supplier quotes.

How accurate is the tonnage?

Gravel weight depends on the stone type and how wet it is. River rock, pea gravel and wet stone can weigh more, so ask your supplier for their weight per yard.

How deep should gravel be?

About 4 inches for a path or a paver base, and often 6 to 8 inches or more in layers for a driveway. Your soil and use change this.

Does it include extra for compaction?

No. Compacted gravel takes up less space, so add about 10% if you will compact it. The patio planner already adds this for paver base.
